Health Commissioner Declares Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert for Tuesday Morning

BALTIMORE, MD (December 29, 2025) — Health Commissioner Dr. Michelle Taylor has issued a Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert for the morning of Tuesday, December 30. This alert has been issued due to forecasted wind chills reaching the teens. These extreme cold conditions can be dangerous and could pose significant health risks to residents within the City of Baltimore.  

Baltimore City Health Department Declares First Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert of the Season

BALTIMORE, MD (December 12, 2025) — The Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) announced the first Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert of the winter season, beginning Sunday, December 14 through Monday, December 15. Forecasted temperatures and wind chills are expected to fall dangerously low, increasing the risk of cold-related illness for residents.

BCHD Reiterates Importance of Hepatitis B Birth Dose for All Newborns: Guidance Aligns with the American Academy of Pediatrics

BALTIMORE, MD (Friday, December 5, 2025) – This morning, the CDC’s Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices decided to remove their longstanding recommendation to vaccinate all newborns for hepatitis B. The committee’s decision eliminates a recommendation originally put in place by the same committee in 1991, which is credited with reducing acute cases of hep B in children by 99%. The Baltimore City Health Department (BCHD) is firmly committed to maintaining the hepatitis B vaccine schedule to protect newborns. Increase in Mpox Cases in Baltimore City; Risk to the General Public Remains Low

BALTIMORE, MD (Friday, November 28, 2025) — There has been a notable increase in mpox cases reported among Baltimore City residents. From January 1 through November 20, 2025, 24 cases have been reported in Baltimore City, with more than half occurring since September 1.

Baltimore City Health Department Confirms Rabid Raccoon Found in Roland Park

BALTIMORE, MD (Friday, November 14, 2025) — On Friday, November 14, the Baltimore City Health Department Animal Control unit was notified that a raccoon captured in Roland Park has tested positive for rabies. The raccoon was reported to have bitten a dog before capture, but the dog’s whereabouts are unclear.
