BALTIMORE, MD (January 17, 2020) — With temperatures forecasted to fall into the teens with wind chill, Health Commissioner Letitia Dzirasa has issued a Code Blue Extreme Cold declaration for Baltimore City beginning Sunday evening, January 19, through Monday morning, January 20.

Health Commissioner Declares First Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert of the Season

BALTIMORE, MD (December 18, 2019) — With temperatures predicted to fall into the teens with wind chill, Health Commissioner Letitia Dzirasa today issued a Code Blue Extreme Cold declaration for Baltimore City beginning Wednesday evening, December 18 through Thursday morning, December 19.  This is the first Code Blue Extreme Cold Alert for Baltimore City this season.

Baltimore City Announces Beginning of Code Blue Extreme Cold Season

BALTIMORE, MD (November 15, 2019)  Mayor Bernard “Jack” Young and Health Commissioner Letitia Dzirasa today announced the start of Baltimore City’s Code Blue Extreme Cold program for the coming winter. Code Blue Extreme Cold is a multi-agency effort to reduce hypothermia deaths by protecting homeless individuals, seniors and other vulnerable populations from extreme cold weather.

BALTIMORE, MD (August 16, 2019)  With high temperatures forecasted for the Baltimore region and a heat index expected to reach 100 degrees Fahrenheit, Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Letitia Dzirasa has issued a Code Red Extreme Heat Alert for Sunday, August 18th through Monday, August 19th.  The heat index is a measure of air temperature and relative humidity and indicates how hot it feels to the human body.

BALTIMORE, MD (July 15, 2019) With another heat wave brewing across the Baltimore region this week, and with the heat index forecasted to reach over 100 degrees Fahrenheit for several days, Baltimore City Health Commissioner Dr. Letitia Dzirasa has issued a Code Red Extreme Heat Alert for tomorrow, Tuesday, July 16th through Sunday, July 21st.   The heat index is a measure of air temperature and relative humidity and indicates how hot it feels to the human body. 

Raccoon Picked up by Animal Control Tests Positive for Rabies

BALTIMORE, MD (July 11, 2019) 

The Baltimore City Health Department Office of Animal Control picked up a raccoon from Schenley Road in the Roland Park neighborhood on July 9th that has tested positive for rabies. Anyone who came into contact with a raccoon near this location recently should contact the Office of Acute Communicable Disease at 410-396-4436 during business hours or 410-396-3100 afterhours.
