Access to Healthy Food

ARPA Proposal Overview: Improving Nutritional Security, Food Access, and Food Equity in Baltimore City During and After COVID-19 - This project falls under the “Clean and Healthy Communities” section of Mayoral Priority Outcomes. The goal of this project is to build an equitable and resilient food system to mitigate the negative impacts associated with food insecurity during and after the COVID-19 pandemic by: improving access to healthy affordable food, increasing produce distribution and incentivization, and addressing the food supply chain failure by building the BIPOC local food production supply chain.

Department of Planning - Baltimore Food Policy Initiative - The Baltimore Food Policy Initiative is a collaboration among several city agencies to address food policies from sustainability, food access, and economic perspectives.

Farm Alliance of Baltimore - The Farm Alliance of Baltimore is a membership organization of urban farms, neighborhood growers, and friends. They use connection, resource sharing, and collective advocacy with respect to food, land and water to expand communities’ self-determination and power.

Strategy to Improve Nutritional Security & Minimize Hunger: COVID-19 Emergency Food Response - In response to the 2019 novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic, the City of Baltimore developed a comprehensive Emergency Food Strategy involving City agencies and critical nonprofit, business, and community partners. 

Diabetes Prevention and Management

American Diabetes Association – The American Diabetes Association’s mission is to prevent and cure diabetes and to improve the lives of all people affected by diabetes.

Diabetes Prevention - Baltimore City – The Baltimore City Diabetes Prevention program provides information about prediabetes and diabetes in Baltimore City.

Diabetes Self-Management Education - Participating in a diabetes self-management education program can help you learn skills to manage your diabetes more effectively by checking blood sugar regularly, eating healthy food, being active, taking medicines as prescribed, and handling stress.

National Diabetes Prevention Program - The National Diabetes Prevention Program is a partnership of public and private organizations working to prevent or delay type 2 diabetes. 

Family Health

Maternal and Child Health - Baltimore City - The Bureau of Maternal and Child Health supports the health and well-being of pregnant women, children, and their caregivers in Baltimore City. Its leading initiative, B’more for Healthy Babies, provides the guiding strategic vision around improving birth outcomes via policy development, community engagement, and innovative services.

Mayor's Office of Children & Family Success - The Mayor’s Office of Children & Family Success is an agency dedicated to ensuring Baltimore’s children and families have access to the resources and opportunities they need to succeed and thrive—through citywide coordination of services, smart policymaking, data-driven programming, strategic allocation of resources and deep engagement with partners and the community. 

National Maternal and Child Health Bureau – The National Maternal and Child Health Bureau’s mission is to improve the health and well-being of America’s mothers, children, and families.

Maryland Access Point - Baltimore City - Maryland Access Point (MAP) serves as the entry point for obtaining information, referrals, and options counseling for seniors, adults with disabilities, their families, caregivers, and professionals.

Maryland Access Point - State of Maryland - MAP is the gateway to long-term services and supports in Maryland. MAP specialists work with caregivers, professionals, and all individuals with long-term care needs to plan, identify, connect, and assist with accessing private and public resources for long-term services and supports.​

Neighborhood Safety

Mayor's Office of Neighborhood Safety and Engagement - Dedicated to the co-production of public safety in all of Baltimore’s neighborhoods, MONSE will partner with Baltimore’s residents, community-based organizations, institutions, businesses, and agencies to stem the tide of violence, while simultaneously unearthing its root causes.
